Luc:
Luc posted a sign on the door of his usual classroom, a plain piece of parchment with words he'd boldly printed so no student could possibly misinterpret it as a class canceled kind of sign. It simply read, in his favorite red ink,Class today will be held in the Forbidden Forest. Meet near the Gamekeeper's Hut by class time or be left behind.
Once he'd secured it with two tacks, each firmly pressed into the wood of the door, he turned and walked to the Entrance Hall. It was fairly quiet at the moment, as the previous class hadn't yet ended. He was early, as he liked to be but didn't always manage. He had walked into his class late before, distracted by some new article about the dragons he'd been tending in Romania or caught up in attempting to catch a specimen for class. But not today. Today they were going to explore one of his favorite creatures, right after dragons. Well, and maybe his demon of a familiar.
Speak of the devil. Nightmare had suddenly appeared in front of his feet, and he nearly fell onto his face tripping over the dratted creature. He managed to catch himself before he broke his nose on the floor, but barely, and his hands were sore.
Fortunately, there weren't many people around to see it. So he picked himself up, brushed off the knees of his pants, and continued on as if nothing had happened. Except for his quiet cursing at the animal that walked right beside him, no one would be able to tell that he'd almost had to cancel what would probably be one of his favorite lessons.
He pushed the heavy front doors open and strolled across the green, Nightmare a shadow at his ankle like some ridiculous rat dog. He tried to tell her to go home, but she didn't listen, as per usual. So he squinted into the sunlight, waiting to get to the tree line so he could rest his eyes from the glare for a little while. He'd have to return to the sunlight once his students started arriving, but until then he could sit in the shadows and plan his lesson beyond "Look! A Unicorn! How cool!"
He arrived at the forbidden treeline and found a nice place to sit under a particularly thick, old tree trunk, and sat against it. He closed his eyes for a moment to rid them of the stinging pain that being in the direct sun always brought, and then pulled the small, worn notebook and pen from the back pocket of his jeans - for he'd decided that jeans and a T-shirt was an appropriate outfit when he was going into the warm forest to kneel in the dirt with horses - and began to plot out exactly what he felt the students would need to learn this lesson, organizing his thoughts into an order that would make sense. He knew all of the information, but sometimes getting it out of his head in a logical manner was difficult.
Now he just had to wait for the students to come, and they could go explore the deep depths of the place that was usually off limits to them in search of a mythical, beautiful creature.
